SCOOP Art

Since our establishment in 2009, The SCOOP Foundation has been actively involved in the arts community and is dedicated to giving back through SCOOP Art.

SCOOP Art consists of two components: the Artist Residency in Ireland and the summer Art Programme in the Bajed Kandala Camp, Iraqi Kurdistan. These initiatives provide beneficiaries with a platform for expression, empowerment, and community building. Art, being a universal language, allows beneficiaries to explore their emotions and identities creatively, irrespective of cultural and linguistic barriers.

Art Programme (Iraqi Kurdistan)

Since 2017, we have been delivering art classes in the Bajed Kandala Camp to internally displaced young people. Every summer we run these classes for two weeks and welcome roughly 45 young people a day.

Engaging in art helps our beneficiaries regain a sense of control and agency in their lives. It provides them with a creative outlet where they can explore their talents, develop new skills, and regain self-confidence, enhancing their overall well-being. Artist, Shane Sutton, often joins us on our trips to deliver engaging, educational and most importantly, fun art classes!

Big thanks to our art supplier, Panda Stationary Erbil.

Artist Residency (Ireland)

The SCOOP Artist Residency gives people who identify as a refugee, asylum seeker or migrant the opportunity to re-establish their art practice in Ireland. Our Artist Residency runs for five months and allows the artist to focus on the development of their art practice, get creative, and have the space, materials and support to flourish. It also supports the artist to engage and network with a wide field of artists and people in the industry to create lasting relationships.

The programme offers:

  1. Studio space – The residency offers studio space for one person at The Dean Art Studios.
  2. Materials – The residency provides the artists with all the art materials they need.
  3. Bursary – The residency includes a monthly bursary to enable the artist to fully focus on their art during this time.
  4. Expenses – The residency offers to cover travel expenses.

We are currently in the fifth phase of this project and are thrilled to introduce our current artist in residence, Julio Godoy! We want to thank ‘The Art Riddler’ who has generously funded all of the art materials for this phase. Previous artists include Insaf, Manar Al Shouha, Oksana Tsymbalova and Olga Melnykova.

A huge thank you to our partner, Dean Art Studios, who provides studio space for the Artist Residency programme. Dean Art Studios is a leading creative hub in the heart of Dublin that provides studio space, workshops, and exhibition opportunities for emerging and established artists. The Dean Art Studios is wholly funded by Press Up Hospitality Group. The partnership between The SCOOP Foundation and Dean Art Studios reflects a shared commitment to supporting artists and fostering creativity.
